Downtown Revitalization Plan

MSF and the Town of Fairmount partnered to pursue a CBDG Planning Grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs with support from Kleinpeter Consulting. Awarded in 2025, the DRP process ran from August 2025-March 2026 with HWC Engineering as the engineering firm. A draft of the planning document was presented on March 9, 2026 to the Public at the Town Council meeting. After OCRA review, the plan is to be delivered to the Town of Fairmount

Comprehensive Plan

When Swayzee, IN unveiled a Comprehensive Plan in partnership with BSU Urban Planning, MSF immediately began asking questions. A conversation between BSU UP and local representatives revealed aligned thinking and timing. The Town Council valued this conversation and partnership to mobilize this project with full support and funding. BSU Urban Planning will develop a Comp Plan for Fairmount during the Fall 2026 semester.

Taylor University PR Campaign

Professor Donna Downs is a longtime Fairmount community resident. In the Fall of 2024, Professor Downs’ PR Class crafted a personalized campaign for MSF. We appreciated and enjoyed the partnership and collaboration with the students.

Ball State University Center for Historic Preservation

OCRA awarded Main Street Fairmount a competitive Technical Grant in 2024 for a partnership with the Ball State Center for Historic Preservation. BSU Graduate student, Isabelle Copeland, studied 5 buildings in our historic commercial district and presented architectural recommendations to the building owners. Professor JP Hall oversees the program.

We are ecstatic to partner with BSU CHP again in Spring 2026 for another round of building studies. This time, local donations funded the project. Thank You to our October 2025 donors who made this next round of recommendations possible.

Main Street Ready

Summer 2024 - Sunshine warmed the upstairs meeting room while members of the Fairmount community discussed the realities of living in rural NE Indiana with representatives of Indiana Main Street (IMS), a national organization under the headship of the IN Office of Community & Rural Affairs (OCRA). Main Street Fairmount (MSF) coordinated logistics for our town to participate in a program entitled, ‘Main Street Ready.’

A series of gatherings with local leadership paired with a community forum focused on results from a community survey. We asked and Fairmount responded. Analyzed results inserted into a presentation format are found in the button below. We look forward to exploring where these might lead us!
